Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid was not enough to keep their low chances of going through the group stage alive, and they became the first British side to go out of the European competition.
Arsenal, meanwhile, beat French side Montpellier 2-0 to cement their place in the second round, following Manchester United into the knockout stages.
