City thrash Newcastle to get off to great start

Manchester City stated their intentions for the season with a 4-0 win over Newcastle in their first game of the season. Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure all scored for the home side, with Newcastle only managing one shot on target.

Just a few hours before the game Arsenal submitted £10 million bid for Newcastle's star midfielder Yohan Cabaye. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew subsequently left Cabaye out of the squad for the game, and later stated that the 'insulting' bid had a 'huge bearing' on the outcome of the match.

So, after one game each, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea make up the top four, while Hull, Swansea and Newcastle are in the relegation places.
