Manchester United got David Moyes' Premier League reign off to a winning start, winning 4-1 at Swansea. Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck both scored braces, withWilfried Bony scoring his first goal of the season late on in the match.
Arsene Wenger had to apologise to Arsenal's fans as they flopped to a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa, with Christian Benteke scoring twice. Simon Mignolet had a brilliant debut for Liverpool as he saved a late penalty to help the Reds win 1-0.
There were also 1-0 wins for Southampton and Fulham. Norwich fought back to draw with Everton 2-2, while new boys Cardiff failed to record a single shot on target as West Ham beat the Welshmen 2-0.
