Di Canio sacked as Sunderland manager

Paulo Di Canio's exciting and often controversial reign as Sunderland manager as come to an end, after only six months and 13 games in the job.

He only won three of his 13 games as boss, but one of those was a result that will go down in Sunderland history - a 3-0 away win over bitter rivals Newcastle.

Ex-Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is the early favourite for the job, followed by former Brighton boss Gus Poyet and Tony Pulis.
