Nadal and Williams secure US Open wins

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams both won the US Open, in the men's (Nadal) and women's (Williams) competitions.

Serena Williams beat Victoria Azarenka, while Rafael Nadal beat world number one Novak Djokovic.

  1. And wasn't it a master class performance from Mr Nadal. Djokovic is the only player in the world who can beat Nadal when he's playing at this level and even then it's only possible when Novak is playing at his physical and mental peak (which he wasn't in the US Open final). Well done Rafa. When Roger reached 17 Grand Slam wins everyone thought it would never be equalled. Rafa is getting very close....

Who do you think will end the year as world #1?

    Love,
    Conor.

  2. It will be a close battle to no.1 in the world on 31st December 2013. Novak Djokovic is currently 260 points above Rafael Nadal in the ATP World Rankings. A good performance in the last few events of the year, and Nadal has a very good chance of pulling off no.1.

Ultimately I think that Djokovic will still be the best male tennis player in the world come 2014, but I predict that Nadal, provided he doesn't have any bad injuries, will overtake Djokovic next year.
