Roberto Di Matteo had left the post of Chelsea manager after the Blues' 3-0 loss to Juventus.
Despite Champions League and FA Cup trophies in May, the former assistant manager has been sacked after just 8 months in charge.
The main candidates for the job are ex-Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola and former Inter Milan and Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.
